Jung Jaeho

Jung, Jaeho (b.1970) is working on revealing refracted memories by layering and collage image reconstruction, which is one of the representative techniques of digital image processing in paintings and wall paintings. It is an act of reconfiguring something by digital reasoning, and what we have learned or said afterwards also affects the reconstruction, and at present this way is more fragmented and segmented.

Kwon Soonik

Kwon, Soonik (b.1959) was attracted by the black graphite, which was accidentally encountered in the Mungyeong coal mine. He utilizes sand and graphite and uses western materials at the same time, in which he presents full eastern atmosphere and modern sophistication in his work. The light from the graphite in his work illuminates the lyricism of the mind.

Kim Kidong

Kim, Kidong (b.1966) expresses that the black boot, in search of the black breath behind the persona, stands alone supporting the world through its labor as a part of finding itself, surrounded by a scene that expresses there is a lot of noise, dust, and the texts of human life.

Kim Jongyoul

Kim, Jongyoul (b.1981) says there is a spring everywhere. “Flowers bloom, and life and people dynamically live even in the places that are left with only feeling of achromatic color and reminiscent of charcoal, and old glory in our preconceived notion.” The artist works on expressing the warmth of beautiful color and passion with intuitive colors and images.

Park Nohcheol

As a photographer who takes pictures of Taebaek Mountains, Park, Nohcheol (b.1962) conveys the message of nature and human communication, social values and overcoming the limit of the sense of failure in the abandoned mine area. The artist reflects with photographer's eyes that there is an inconvenient truth hidden in the prosperous and beautiful mountains and valleys of the past under the abandoned mine area where he lives.

Baek Kyumjoong

Baek, Kyumjoong (b.1967) resides in each area for a certain time working with the feeling of nostalgia. The areas include Africa and Taiwan. He demonstrates that it is important to cherish those that are dismantled and destroyed because they are considered to be old. We should give them new lives, create, develop and make them our living companions. He records Cheolam so that it can coexist within his own existence.

Oh Donghwan

Oh, Donghwan (b.1989) has been working to copy and collect those socially unstable things through the characteristics of the scanner device, accompanied by the observation and watching of errors outside the frame. In this work, he will interview local residents who live in Cheolam and observe their daily gaze and look for their gaze of hope.

Jeon Jehun

Jeon, Jehun (b.1963), a chemical management officer of Kyungdong Mine, works to remember the traces of the crisis that will be erased as a heritage of the age by recording his peer workers who have lived in Cheolam as their bases of life.

Dadi Setiyadi

Dadi Setiyadi (b.1977, Indonesia) visually represents the myths of various countries combined with Indonesian traditions. Indonesia has also been operating several coal mines since the colonial period. This is a work to show his respect for coal miners. As we know, miners do this work in spite of the danger, and thanks to them, we see the hope for a better future.

Hayoon Jay Lee

Hayoon Jay Lee (b.1962, the U.S.A) is an artist working in New York who wants to express the dynamism of poverty in the midst of abundance and conflict, freedom and alienation, hope and powerlessness produced in the inevitable human desires and actions. The artist expresses the concerns that affect all of us through imagery based on the blend of east and west transcending nationalities.

Sara Arrigoni

Sara Arrigoni (b.1983, Italy) studied in Milano, Italy and Sotheby's auction in London, England, and has worked as a project and personal collector manager in Milano for more than 10 years. She is currently working as a gallery manager for famous galleries in Italy, Switzerland and Canada. Through this project, she will look into the history of Asia and the identity of the works and introduce them to Europe.

Lee Inhu

Lee, Inhu (b.2004) appeared on the TV program and received attentions as a child Picasso. The artist delivers his story through his own drawings and colorful colors. Despite not having received regular art education, he draws his own art world through his inner imagination and creativity.

Piao Guangxie

Piao Guangxie (b.1970, China) is an artist born in the period of the Chinese Cultural Revolution between the 1960s and 1970s. He works in a manner that cynically observes Chinese society in 1990s. He identifies and expresses his identity in diversified issues. The pink in his work is not red or white, which represents that he is neither of them, but in the middle. He also aims at sharing his pain with the people of Cheolam and healing them and himself.

X-RAY

X-RAY (b.1973, Japan) says he participated in the Gangwon Residency last year and was deeply inspired by the visit to Cheolam. In this project, he will show the work of remembrance of the Cheolam on a rainy day through sound and video installation.
